Savings accounts, money market accounts, and certificates of deposit are all earning rates far above the average for all of America. Perhaps more noteworthy is the bank's checking account, which earns you 1 percent cash back on debit card purchases. Discover does not charge monthly fees for service.


Overdraft Fees


As with many other banks, Discover Bank doesn't charge overdraft fees. Suppose you don't have enough funds to pay for an expense in your bank account. If you've enabled the protection against overdrafts, Discover will pull the funds from your designated fund account. If there's not enough money to fund your account, or you've not activated overdraft protection, the transaction will be rejected, and you will not be charged any fee. The biggest U.S. banks charge an average fee for overdrafts of $35 and sometimes more than once every day. When you cannot have enough cash to buy something, Discover won't penalize you for it. Transfers from linked accounts that cover your overdrafts are at no cost. Other banks may charge fees for this service. There is no alternative to having an overdraft credit line.


Discover Savings Account


Like an account for checking, Discover Savings doesn't have a minimum requirement to create or keep the account. It's not the only positive factor for the account in the market. These accounts have a high earnings potential. Balances below $100,000 earn 0.50 percent APR. Account balances that are $100,000 or more are paid 0.55 percent APR. A with a balance of $20k saved over five years earns $100 in the initial year and $506 for five years of savings. The money market accounts offered by Discover have no charges, and there are no minimum balance requirements. Money market accounts permit you to earn higher interest than conventional checking accounts.
